Consumer Product Testing

New Federal legislation known as the CPSIA has set stringent limits on the hazardous materials allowed in children's products.

Fuel/Biodiesel Testing

We offer identification of contaminants in gasoline and diesel fuel as well as ASTM testing of biodiesel and ethanol-based fuels.

Transformer Oil Analysis

Electrical transformer oil is an indicator of the overall state of the transformer, testing can provide early detection of potential failure.

Electron Microscopy

Analysis of metal fragments or particulate matter by scanning electron microscope can greatly expedite problem solving.

Failure Analysis and Consulting

With varied experience both in product and aerospace R&D as well as litigation services, we can help you efficiently solve your problems.

Elemental and Molecular Analysis

Material identification is one of the most essential parts of what we do, using SEM/EDS, XRF, FTIR, and GC to identify your substance.
ANALYSIS

The most basic problem that we deal with in many areas of materials science is simply the identification or characterization of matter. Whether you have a plastic you need to know the molecular composition of, a liquid of unknown chemistry, a metal alloy that you need compared with others for subtle differences in the structure, Lab/Cor Materials has the equipment and expertise to give you the information you need.

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
FTIR Toy
A toy being screened for Phthalates

When you need to identify an organic compound (such as polymers and oils) on a molecular scale, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is one of the fastest and cost effective methods available. The spectrometer measures the resonance of the bonds in the sample using an infrared source. This creates a unique fingerprint not unlike a human's DNA. We can then match the fingerprint of your sample to one of the thousands in our libraries and hence tell you what the sample is.

Some recent applications of FTIR have been the testing of toys for phthalates, as well as the testing of transformer oil and biodiesel.

Gas Chromatography

Thermo Trace Ulta GC
Thermo Trace Ultra GC
Lab/Cor uses a Thermo Trace Ultra GC to perform a variety of analysis on materials at a molecular level. The Gas Chromatograph is able to separate out the constituents of complex formulations based on their chemical properties. A very sensitive machine, some typical applications include
  • Diacetyl analysis in cooking oils
  • PCB analysis in fluorescent light ballasts
  • Biodiesel analysis
  • Phthalate analysis for compliance with laws

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding possible applications of Gas Chromatography for your purposes.

X-Ray Fluorescence

XRF samples submitted to Lab/Cor may be analyzed by various methods depending on the specific needs of the client. A Lab/Cor representative is available to assist in determining what method is appropriate for you.

XRF analyses performed by Lab/Cor include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead: PUD
  • Lead: EPA 7420
