With the diverse backgounds of Lab/Cor Materials' scientists at your disposal, the most complex problems can be easily tackled with ease. We specialize in failure analysis both of products in development and of seasoned units in the wild, but also have extensive experience in product design and development including manufacturing techniques.
Failure analysisWhen products fail, either while still in development or after years of service, the true cause of the failure can elude even the engineers who designed the product, at times. Often in these cases the failure is not even a result of poor engineering but rather could be due to a one-off manufacturing defect.
Using the broad range of instrumentation available to us, we are able to assess and locate the source of mettalurgical, electrical, and corrosive failures. At your request we can also suggest alternative materials, designs, or manufacturing methods to prevent future failures.
Please see the documents page for examples of failure analysis reports.
Whether you are an independent inventer or a large manufacturer, at times during product development you may find that you need some outside input. Often, this is the case when it comes to materials selection, even if the basic design has already been finalized. We can not only test prototype materials for whatever characteristics you need, but can also suggest the best materials for a given task.
Our level of interraction in your product development is up to you, as well. In the past, projects have ranged from total involvement, to meeting once or twice a month, to single, self-contained tasks.
Failure analysis is not only the realm of manufacturers, of course. We have extensive experience with litigation, particularly involving metallurgical failures and identifications.
Resumes of our scentists are available upon request for expert witness service in the failure analysis and materials identification area, as well.
